Analysis of the record performance of Brazilian beef exports in February 2025 and its economic impacts
The Brazilian beef export sector started the year 2025 with a remarkable performance, reaching a historic level in February. This significant result underlines the strength of Brazilian agribusiness on the global stage, driven by international demand and more remunerative prices.
In February 2025, Brazil set a new milestone by exporting 190,460 metric tons of fresh beef. This volume represents an increase of 6.3% compared to the previous record, registered in February 2024, which was 179,120 metric tons. The performance considerably exceeds the export volumes of previous years, demonstrating robust growth in the sector.
The significant export volume resulted in revenue of US$938.47 million in February 2025. This amount represents an increase of 15.7% compared to the US$810.86 million registered in February 2024, and also surpasses the previous revenue record for the month, set in 2022 (US$888.12 million).
The increase in revenue exceeded the growth in export volume, reflecting the appreciation of Brazilian beef in the international market. The average price of beef reached US$4.93 per kg in February 2025, an increase of 8.8% compared to US$4.53 per kg in February 2024. This price level is the highest for the period since 2022, indicating a favorable situation for exporters.
Despite the exceptional performance in the international market, the domestic beef market in Brazil shows signs of sluggishness at the beginning of 2025. The retail sector in São Paulo continues to face difficulties with the pace of sales, putting pressure on beef prices in the domestic market at the beginning of March. This dual scenario indicates that, while exports are thriving, the domestic market is still seeking a more consistent pace of recovery.
February 2025 consolidated itself as a month of remarkable achievements for Brazilian beef exports, driven by strong global demand and price appreciation. However, the domestic market still faces challenges, configuring a mixed outlook for the beef chain in the country at the beginning of this year.
