Howdy cowboys and cowgirls! Let’s be honest, if there’s one event that makes our heart race with emotion, it’s the Rodeo, right?
To help relieve a bit of the nostalgia for that wonderful atmosphere with great music and beautiful people, 7MBoots has brought 5 curiosities about the rodeo. Do you know them all? Check them out below:
The practice of Rodeo originated in 1867 in the interior of the USA. Initially, the objective was to relax the workers who roped animals after their work shift. In Brazil, the activity began in 1955 with the group “Os Independentes” in the city of Barretos, the capital of National Rodeo.
The most dangerous event in the rodeo, called the “bull riding”, consists of the rider staying on the animal for 8 seconds. During this period, which may seem short for spectators but is an eternity for the athlete, the rider holds on in whatever way possible, using only one hand; the other cannot touch anything and must be extended. Once the event is finished, two judges award a score that can range from 0 to 50.
Unfortunately, it is very common for riders to suffer from herniated discs. This problem occurs due to the impact that the bucking of the animal causes to the spine. For example, every time the animal jumps with the rider, it’s like having a fall. These frequent collisions are extremely damaging.
The event practiced with horses, known as Cutiano, is typically Brazilian and does not exist in international rodeos. In this event, the rider needs to stay on top of the horse for 8 seconds, and what is judged are the spur marks on the animal. After the event, each judge gives a score from 0 to 100, and the final result is obtained from the average of all scores given.
The most feared among riders, Boi Bandido was known for throwing competitors off at an extraordinary speed. The only rider who managed to stay on the animal for 8 seconds was the notable Carlos Jesus Boaventura; the others were always defeated by the beast.
