Hello cowboys and cowgirls! Today, we from 7MBoots brought you a little bit of the story of Roberta Miranda, a legend of sertanejo music. Check out some moments from the singer's career and feel free to play the super cool playlist we prepared!
Also known as the “Queen of Sertanejo,” Roberta Miranda is undoubtedly the pioneer of what is now called “feminejo.” The artist, with her powerful voice, surprised everyone by selling one and a half million copies of her first album, a feat that to this day has not been matched by any other Brazilian singer.
Born in João Pessoa in September 1956, Roberta moved to São Paulo at the age of 8 and grew up in the big city alongside her family, who initially did not support her dream of becoming a singer. In her teenage years, Roberta, who until then was called Maria, began working as a crooner in nightclubs, during which time she adopted her stage name.
In 1985, her work was duly recognized by Jair Rodrigues, who recorded the song “A Majestade e o Sabiá” composed by Roberta. Although the singer was already known to the general public at that time, this song significantly boosted his sales. From then on, Roberta's name became sought after by major record labels, and soon the singer signed her first contract with Continental, where she recorded 9 successful albums.
Roberta Miranda stands out for never having been a singer of just one type of music; on the contrary, her repertoire is vast and spans sertanejo, romantic songs, forró, and even brega. This versatility made the singer the queen of sertanejo in the 90s. In addition to her own compositions, Roberta has many successful collaborations with other great artists, such as the king Roberto Carlos.
If today the female presence is so strong in sertanejo, much of it is due to Roberta Miranda. After all, a style that was initially predominantly male has now made space for the incredible voices of Marília Mendonça, Simone & Simaria, Naiara Azevedo, and many others. In fact, in celebration of her 30 years of career, Roberta invited renowned female artists from the “feminejo” to sing alongside her.
This project was named after an original song called “Os tempos mudaram,” in which the voices of Roberta Miranda and Marília Mendonça unite in a magnificent duet. The show's repertoire included 21 songs, 14 of which made it onto the CD that highlights the main hits of the queen's career, such as “Vá com Deus,” “Meu Dengo,” and “São tantas coisas,” as well as re-recordings of beautiful sertanejo classics, such as “Boate Azul,” “Estrada da Vida,” and “Ainda Ontem Chorei de Saudade.”
