Learn More About the 7 Main Rodeo Events

7MBoots has provided some information about the 7 main rodeo events. Check them out below.

Hello everyone! We are counting down to Barretão 2019. To keep you informed about our beloved sport, 7MBoots has brought you information about the 7 main rodeo events. Check them out below:

Cutiano

Exclusively practiced in our country, this typically Brazilian event is characterized by a shallower saddle and the lack of foot support, which uses only two ropes tied to the animal's halter for support. To complete the challenge, the cowboy must stay mounted on the animal for eight seconds without touching it and with his arms free.

American Saddle

A very traditional event in rodeos, the American Saddle starts when the horse leaves the chute and places its two front feet inside the arena. Immediately afterward, the competitor must perform the mark-out, which means placing the spurs at the height of the animal's neck, pulling them back, bending his knees, and following the animal's jumps for 8 seconds. If he does not comply with the rules, he is disqualified. At the end of the challenge, judges give their scores, which range from 0 to 100.

Bareback

In this event, the competitor uses a glove to hold the loop tied to the animal's withers. To minimize friction on the back, the rider may use a protective device for the coccyx. Like the other categories, it follows the rules of eight seconds and no touch.

Bull Riding

We have now reached the most traditional event in rodeo. Using a American rope, this event requires that the cowboy wears a safety vest since he must stay mounted on the animal for 8 seconds while balancing with one hand tied to the rope and the other free, without touching the animal. This event demands a lot of courage, motor coordination, and balance.

Calf Roping

Also known as Calf Roping, this category involves roping the animal's neck while the cowboy is mounted on his horse. After that, the athlete must dismount, tie the three legs of the calf, and raise both hands to signal the end of the event. The time limit for completion is 120 seconds, and the winner is the one who completes the challenge the fastest.

Bulldogging

This event is performed in pairs. While one cowboy does the groundwork, the other jumps from a moving horse onto the animal's head, taking it down and turning its neck to the ground. The winning pair is the one that finishes the event the fastest.

Barrel Racing

Known for female participation, this event consists of making a complete turn around each barrel and racing to the finish line. For every knocked-over obstacle, five seconds are added to the final time. The fastest cowgirl wins the event.
