Discover on the 7MBoots website the benefits of tereré and the step-by-step guide to preparing the drink without making mistakes.

Although tereré originated in Paraguay, it is gaining new fans in Brazil every day. Due to the option of consuming it cold, it is an excellent choice for refreshing on hot days in a healthy way. Additionally, some research has already shown that tereré offers numerous benefits for human health. Check out below, on the 7MBoots site, the advantages of consuming tereré and the best way to prepare it.

Benefits of Tereré for the Body

It is important to highlight that tereré contains more than 90% of antioxidant substances compared to green tea. Therefore, it is a great way to prevent premature aging and even prevent some types of cancer.

Helps Reduce Bad Cholesterol

Due to its high quantity of polyphenols, tereré aids in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and can also reduce LDL, known as bad cholesterol, in the body. Furthermore, it is extremely tasty.

An Excellent Substitute for Coffee

In fact, excessive coffee consumption can become a long-term problem, leading to unpleasant sensations such as headaches and stomachaches, and it can even contribute to increased insomnia. Therefore, substituting coffee with tereré is a positive way to stay awake healthily, as the drink contains a significant amount of caffeine, but does not carry the adverse side effects of coffee.

Now that you know some benefits of tereré, how about learning some steps to prepare this delicious drink? Check below for the tips from 7MBoots!

Method for Preparing Tereré

You will need:

- Yerba mate (it’s worth mentioning that there are specific versions for preparing tereré, including traditional and flavored ones; choose your favorite).

- Tereré straw (bombilla)

- Guampa (if you don’t have one, substitute it with a reasonably sized plastic or glass cup).

- 2 liters of water mixed with the juice of two lemons.

Preparing Your Tereré

Step 1: Fill 2/3 of your guampa or cup with yerba mate.

Step 2: To ensure perfect tereré, it is necessary to separate the stalks from the herb. To do this, cover the mouth of your guampa with your hand and make gentle movements up and down.

Step 3: Tilt the guampa at a 45° angle and remove the hand that was covering the mouth. This way, the stems will concentrate at the bottom, creating a type of weave that facilitates the entry of water into the strainer of the straw.

Step 4: Keep the guampa in the previous position to pour in the cold water.

Step 5: The most important step is to insert the straw into the tereré. For this, the mouthpiece should be covered with your thumb, and the straw should be inserted into the part that is filled with water. Use your wrist to move the straw so that it stays well positioned. To check if the straw is unclogged, remove your thumb and pay attention to the water level, which should drop a few centimeters.

Step 6: Bring the guampa back to an upright position and add a bit more cold water.

Step 7: Done! Now you just need to savor your tereré.
